Winning any championship is special for a driver, but to win one with your father as your crew chief and car owner is very special.
For George Brunnhoelzl III, that is what makes his first NASCAR championship all the more memorable. The 27-year-old Mooresville, N.C., captured the 2009 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship with a career season – a title run that can be traced to his family’s Long Island roots.

That's the line that the pairing of driver Donny Lia and owner Bob Garbarino has produced in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
Prior to the 2007 season, Lia had won a respectable five races and recorded 30 top-10 finishes with 10 poles in 81 starts as a driver and owner of his own team. Garbarino had numerous wins while fielding top-notch teams for four decades. Neither had a Whelen Modified Tour championship to their credit, however.

Philip Morris is used to battling for the championship on the final race of the season. Each of his first two national championships — in 2006 and 2008 — featured must-win scenarios when he took the track for that last race.
This time, however, it was Morris’ reign at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., that was on the line as he held a slim two-point lead over rival Frank Deiny Jr. Morris took care of business with a second-place finish to claim his seventh track championship at the .416-mile oval.

The 2009 season for the NASCAR Camping World Series East featured arguably the best rookie class in history as four first-year drivers finished in the top 10 in the standings and nearly two-thirds of the checkered flags were captured by cars with a yellow stripe.
Heading the class was Ryan Truex, who not only earned Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors, but captured the 2009 Camping World Series East championship as well. Only current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rising star Joey Logano had accomplished that feat prior to Truex.

The 2009 season in the NASCAR Camping World Series West featured another close chase for the championship, with the battle coming down to the wire between Jason Bowles (No. 6 Sunrise Ford.com Ford) and Eric Holmes (No. 20 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota) for the second consecutive year.
Although Holmes led the championship standings through the first half of the season, Bowles came on strong late in the year and clinched the title in the season finale by a 123-point margin.

The year’s NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion can finally celebrate in style. After moving South with his family many years ago, West Babylon, N.Y.-native George Brunnhoelzl III capped an unbelievable season in style, winning his first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship.
Brunnhoelzl accomplished something his father or grandfather had not been able to do throughout their modified driving careers — win a NASCAR touring title.

The 25th Season of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was one of the most competitive in recent memory as five drivers entered the final race of the season with a mathematical shot at the championship.
As the green flag dropped on the season finale at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway on Oct. 25, however, it was a two-horse race for the 2009 crown between Donny Lia and Ryan Preece. The pair had an eventful season to get to that point, one that is sure to be memorable for both.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR announced today that its premier short-track racing showcase, the 2010 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, will be run Jan. 29-30 at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.).
The seventh running of the event, which brings together the top racers from across North America for the ”Daytona 500 of short-track racing,” will be highlighted by the 225-lap NASCAR Camping World Series all-star race.
